Story of Fund
Bob and Rita Kidwell were married in 1954 and built a house in Pine Grove Mills the following year, where they raised a family and lived for the next 53 years. Bob graduated from Cerro Metals’ supervisory training program in 1968 and worked there until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, and hiking; Bob was also a dedicated blood donor – donating over 23 gallons! Rita worked as a secretary to the dean of women at Penn State before becoming a full-time mom to the couple’s two daughters and one son. When her youngest began school at Pine Grove Mills Elementary, she walked him there and also started working there herself. Rita worked there for many years before retiring from the State College Area School District in 1992. Rita now resides at The Village at Penn State; she has eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Grove Mills. The Kidwell Fund will support the mission of Centre Foundation.
