Bill McTurk grew up in Pittsburgh and attended Penn State in the 1940s. He took a break from school to serve in the U.S. Army, but returned and graduate with a degree in chemical engineering in 1948. He joined the Penn State Thespians during those years, and remained involved with them for the rest of his life, serving on the board of the Thespian Alumni Interest Group and earning the "Distinguished Service to the Penn State Thespians" award in 2004. "The William E. McTurk Award for Lifetime Service to the Penn State Thespians" was created in his memory. Lois was born in New York and graduated with a BS in Chemistry from Cornell University. Both Bill and Lois worked for Exxon, he for 34 years and she for 18 years. They both loved golf; Bill was an Executive Committee member of the Metropolitan (NY) Golf Association and Lois was president of the Women?s Metropolitan Golf Association and served on the USGA Women?s Committee, the highest level of women?s amateur golf in the United States. Following Bill?s retirement, In 1997 the couple moved to State College. They were married for 50 years.

It was an honor and privilege to know and work with Bill McTurk...he brought out the best in all of us. He is missed.

Dictionary.com defines stewardship as "the responsible overseeing and protection of something considered worth caring for and preserving".   This fund, and others which support the operation of Centre Foundation, provides stewardship for the future of Centre County.   It allows Centre Foundation to provide greater funding and services to local charitable organizations, as well as enhance our services to the donor community.
