Story of Fund
While childless, the needs of children were always of great importance to Lou and Pat Silvi. Lou was like a father to the children of their many friends, and to the young people who worked for or learned from him during his many years at the Nittany Lion Inn. The Silvis made State College their home in 1954 when Lou began his service at Penn State as the assistant manager of the Nittany Lion Inn. He went on to manage the Inn, and retired from the University in 1980 as assistant to the vice president of business. Lou was well respected throughout the community, where he was active in many organizations.
At Lou's funeral, his friend James Raytek gave the eulogy, in which he mentioned that in Pat's address book he found a quote by Henry David Thoreau, "the most I can do for my friend is simply to be his friend." Living by this motto, Pat and Lou were known and loved by many friends; they will be remembered for this generous spirit. Lou was well respected throughout the community, where he was active in many organizations.
